April, 2019

Every year it is so hard to believe that April is already here. However, it is definitely here! Will all of the snow we got this year, I am really looking forward to some more sunshine coming soon! My spring break included camping in Pueblo where it was 80 degrees and sunny. It was great to recharge and prepare for our final fun stretch before summer vacation!

All grades have started their Module 4 of our EL Education curriculum where they look at how to positively impact the world they live in. Kindergarten is looking at how to enjoy and appreciate trees. First grade studied trees recently and are now looking at how to care for trees. Our 2nd graders studied pollinators and now are looking at how to provide for those pollinators. Our 3rd graders are looking at water around the world. Fourth grade is taking a deep look at how we can respond to inequality, and 5th grade is looking at the impact of natural disasters on us all. All of our students will be participating in an expedition before the end of the year where we either bring experts into our classrooms o r venture out into the community to learn first hand about our topics of interest.  Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students are doing CMAS testing in Language Arts and Math (and Science for 5th grade) during this month. We are excited that our students will get the chance to show what they know. We all realize that standardized tests are just one piece of the full picture of student achievement. However, it is important for our students to learn how to demonstrate their knowledge through these tests. We, as a staff, believe in a low stress environment for our students. We want our students to have positive experiences in school-even on testing days. In fact, many of our students say they love testing days! If you are concerned about standardized testing, please reach out to me. We have a lot of great events coming up in the next 2 months before the end of the year. We hope we will see you all soon. Please be sure to read our April and May Newsletters when they come out for information on dates and times.

Looking forward to seeing you all,
